5th Thursday Guest Dance Instructor Mike Topel on May 31st!

We are thrilled to announce that the renowned Mike Topel will be our Guest Dance Instructor at our 5th Thursday dance on May 31st at 7PM.

Mike is a fantastic instructor and also competes, judges, and DJ's. He has performed at the US Open Swing Dance Championships, UCWDC Country Worlds, and across the country in the NASDE and WSDC swing circuits. During the week he teaches regular classes at Austin City Dance Club located at the Ben Hur Shrine and DJ's a weekly swing dance on Tuesdays. Following the class at 7 PM we will have a potluck and dance, so please try to bring a dish to share and lemonade will be provided. Dancing will continue until 10:00 PM and DJ Ken Ramsey will be spinning a great mix of Blues, R&B, Country, and Pop so hope to see you there!

HOTWDC Swing into Summer 23rd Anniversary Dance on June 16th!

The HOTWDC 23rd Anniversary Dance Party will be held on June 16th at the Red River church. DJ Joe will be bringing his great sound system and playing a mix of our favorite R&B West Coast Swing dance music as well as some good Country, Latin, and Pop selections.

Acclaimed Dance Instructor, Peggy Diamond, teaching March 29th at the HOTWDC 5th Thursday Dance!

Peggy, our newest Advanced Level Instructor, will be giving us a special class that will include syncopations at our 5th Thursday dance and pot luck to be held at the Ascension Lutheran Church Hall. We are indeed very fortunate that Peggy is now assisting our dance director in teaching the Advanced level class at our club. Peggy recently moved to Austin from San Diego where she earned awards for Top Teacher, Top Choreography and Best Footwork, Timing and Execution. Peggy has judged and taught workshops at the US Open and other prestigious events and is an inductee in the California Swing Dance Hall of Fame. New Instructor!

We are thrilled to introduce our newest instructor: Peggy Diamond.

From her website

Peggy Diamond is a popular instructor in the San Diego area. Her career also led her to teach in Europe and all over the United States. She has judged and taught workshops at the US Open and other prestigious events in Paris and London. Peggy was fortunate in her career to win some exciting first place titles in Ballroom & Swing. She has earned awards for Top Teacher, Top Choreography and Best Footwork, Timing and Execution.

Peggy is an inductee in the California Swing Dance Hall of Fame.

Peggy is an accredited Gold Medal Instructor for three national dance studio chains. She also served as western regional dance director for T.C. Dance Clubs, Inc.

We had a great time with on Thursday, Sep. 29th with Taletha Jouzdani as our guest instructor!

After the class, we had our pot luck followed by a West Coast Swing dance with music by Ken Ramsey!

Taletha Jouzdani Guest Dance Instructor on Sep. 29th!

We are very pleased to announce that we will be honored to have West Coast Swing dance champion Taletha Jouzdani as our guest instructor on Thursday, Sep. 29th, 2011 for our 5th Thursday dance! Taletha is a two-time US OPEN Jack & Jill finalist who is currently competing in Jack & Jills and Strictlys at the All-Star/Champion level. Taletha has been teaching dance for over 13 years and is currently an instructor at Austin City Dance Club.

Thank you Kristy!

A fun time was enjoyed by all on June 30th with Kristy Watson teaching us another wonderful pattern! We had a good turnout and would like to see some of these part-timers at HOTWDC every week! After Kristy's class we partook in our traditional pot luck which was followed by a great west coast swing dance! Somewhere in the middle of all the excitement we squeezed in a quiet birthday celebration for our President-no it wasn't for Obama. . . .

Thanks again to Kristy Watson as we really appreciate her taking the time to teach us a great pattern and supporting HOTWDC!

Summer Swing Fling Series

Thursday, June 30th
7 to 8 pm

Kristy Watson teaches some of her favorite West Coast Swing moves. She is well known in the Austin dance community. She is certified in American Smooth and Rhythm ballroom dances and has competed in the Ballroom, WC Swing and Country Westrn circuit. Kristy is extremely knowledgeable in all the social dancing styles including Jitterbug Swing, and Salsa dances. She has been teaching in the Austin dance community for 10 years and has an inviting sense of genuineness and care that has endeared her to dancers throughout her career. Kristy’s background in theater, ballet, jazz and lyrical dance mixed with her knowledge of ballroom dancing puts her in demand for ladies' styling and coaching.

HOTWDC 22nd Anniversary

Everyone had a lot of fun dancing at the 22nd Whip Club Anniversary Dance; professionals Carson Watson and Mike Topel added to the entertainment.

Special thanks to Ken Ramsey who as outgoing president of the club announced a new board of directors, including Russ Hart as President and Nancy Ramsey as Treasurer.

HOTWDC 22nd Christmas Party

The HOTWDC 22^nd Christmas Party was one of the most fun HOTWDC parties in recent memory. There were many dancers and great dance tunes spun by DJ-Joe.

And the audience thoroughly enjoyed the Swing Dance Team led by Joann Hutcheson.

HOTWDC Swing Dance Team

This September, we started a Swing Dance Team led by Joann Hutcheson.

5th Thursday, July 29th

We had a great turn-out for the workshop taught by Mike Topel (http://www.miketopel.com/). And the dance afterwards was wonderful and energetic with DJ Ken Ramsey spinning his dance mix of today's hottest hits along with the best selections of Blues, R&B, Country and Pop.

New Advanced Class

This June, we are starting a new advanced class called Fundamentals of Rhythms & Breaks. This class will focus on listening and responding to the music.

HOTWDC turned 21!

Thanks to everyone that made the 21 year anniversary party a great success. Great music, great dancing, and great people always makes for a great time.

And congratulations to James Skowbo and Joe Irby for their awards which recognized their signifcant contributions over the years to HOTWDC!
